I look forward to a new edition of Neuburg’s book which I will pick up as soon as it becomes available. He doesn’t talk about that in chapter 18, on gesture recognizers, either — so if you want to do this without code, you’re sort of on your own. Still, if you’ve got some good professional programming experience and don’t need a lot of hand-holding, this is a great book to learn iOS programming from.

English Choose a language for shopping. Important iOS 5 changes that can break existing code are explicitly called out in the text and listed in the index. The book is completely revised; this is the best edition ever: A folder synchronizer examines two folders and copies contents from each one to the other in such a way that both folders have the same contents; where an item exists in both places, it makes sure that both folders have the most recent version of that item.

Programming iOS 5 by Matt Neuburg

Your book fits everything together. There were so many new features introduced with iOS 5 that I think even somebody with iOS 4 experience will find this book useful.

I could summarize the differences between part I of the first and second editions in a few lines; Objective C itself didn’t really change, so neither did the book. It is a scholarly work.

My Review of Matt Neuburg’s “Programming iOS 5”

I think some of the other reviewers are being rather unfair. Tor and the Deep Web: The Controls chapter now includes iOS 5 interface customizability and the appearance proxy.

Still, I couldn’t and didn’t, and I don’t think that my experience with the later chapters suffered as a result. Part I – Language The progdamming section is almost identical in both editions of the book.
